Seeing Emotion With Google Glass

Emotient-Google-Glass-App

San Diego Emotient announced the private beta of a new Google Glass app that uses the company’s Emotion API technology. Glassware builds upon Emotient’s prior effort of reading emotions from people in images or in real-time through camera software.

Educators and teaching apps could tailor learning modules based on the frustration level of a student, for example. Restaurants could quickly see if diners really aren’t liking their meal even before being asked “How did everything turn out?”

They don’t mention it in the article, but you can bet law enforcement and intelligence services will be all over this.

From my point of view, not surprisingly, I am fascinated by some of the options for video games. (“Come on! Make your angry face! You’ll get +10 Damage!”)

About

I design video games for a living, write fiction, political theory and poetry for personal amusement, and train regularly in Western European 16th century swordwork. On frequent occasion I have been known to hunt for and explore abandoned graveyards, train tunnels and other interesting places wherever I may find them, but there is absolutely no truth to the rumor that I am preparing to set off a zombie apocalypse. Nothing that will stand up in court, at least. I use paranthesis with distressing frequency, have a deep passion for history, anthropology and sociological theory, and really, really, really hate mayonnaise. But I wash my hands after the writing. Promise.
