For those of less advanced years, this is a clever reference to the disembodied hand known affectionately as “Thing” from the Addams Family lore.

The Addams Family is a group of fictional characters created by American cartoonist Charles Addams. The Addams Family characters include Gomez, Morticia, Uncle Fester, Lurch, Grandmama, Wednesday, Pugsley, Pubert Addams, Cousin Itt and Thing.

The Addamses are a satirical inversion of the ideal American family; an eccentric, wealthy clan who delight in the macabre and are unaware (or simply don’t care) that people find them bizarre or frightening.
