The Predatory Bobbit Worm

Eunice-aphroditois

The Bobbit Worm – technically Eunice aphroditois – is an aquatic predatory worm that burrows into the ocean bed where it waits patiently for prey to be dumb enough to wander too close.

Its teeth are so sharp and it attacks so fast it often slices its prey in half as it extends out of its hiding place and attacks.

And that’s not all. This fucking worm “injects [a] narcotizing or killing toxin in their prey animal”. It’s fucking poisonous too. And grows up to 3 meters long.

I am just waiting for some bright researcher to figure out a way of making these grow big enough to displace Shark Week.

About

I design video games for a living, write fiction, political theory and poetry for personal amusement, and train regularly in Western European 16th century swordwork. On frequent occasion I have been known to hunt for and explore abandoned graveyards, train tunnels and other interesting places wherever I may find them, but there is absolutely no truth to the rumor that I am preparing to set off a zombie apocalypse. Nothing that will stand up in court, at least. I use paranthesis with distressing frequency, have a deep passion for history, anthropology and sociological theory, and really, really, really hate mayonnaise. But I wash my hands after the writing. Promise.
