The Fish Cannon

Salmon are born in fresh water, then migrate to the ocean, where they grow to maturity, returning back to fresh water to breed, sometimes hundreds of kilometers, navigating obstacles along the way – including swimming up waterfalls.

[D]ams can therefore pose a serious problem. One solution is the fish ladder, a structure that is designed to help migratory fish negotiate the changed waterways.

Or you could just fire them through a cannon.

Whooshh Innovations had developed a method of gently and quickly transporting fruit over long distances via a [pneumatic-like] tube [so they] decided to adapt the tube to fish.

Fish go in one end, and the soft fabric of the tube forms a seal around the body of the fish, creating a vacuum, which in turn propels the fish through the tube at a speed of around 5 meters to 10 meters per second (11 mph to 22 mph).

Soon to be announced – Wooshh’s new “People Cannon” used for addressing severe congestion in the world’s major cities!

About

I design video games for a living, write fiction, political theory and poetry for personal amusement, and train regularly in Western European 16th century swordwork. On frequent occasion I have been known to hunt for and explore abandoned graveyards, train tunnels and other interesting places wherever I may find them, but there is absolutely no truth to the rumor that I am preparing to set off a zombie apocalypse. Nothing that will stand up in court, at least. I use paranthesis with distressing frequency, have a deep passion for history, anthropology and sociological theory, and really, really, really hate mayonnaise. But I wash my hands after the writing. Promise.
