Tourists in Ukraine are being offered trips to the war zone with prices starting at £50 for a tour – which includes a flak jacket.

The tours to the battle zone in the east of the country where hundreds of people have been killed range from the cheapest option to the more expensive £400 outings to areas where there is active fighting.

Opportunist companies have sprung up in war-torn areas, posting publicity for the tours on trees and posts.

[Advertisements] for the trips are being put up in tourism areas and also over the border in neighbouring countries, with phrases like: “Impress your friends with the ultimate selfies”.

Several people that have been on the tours and posted images on social networking sites also talked about picking up souvenirs, including bullet cases and pieces of blackened rubble to take home as a keepsake.

Darwinism in action, I’d say.

It actually reminds me a little of the surreal incident where in the American Civil War Union dignitaries had a picnic overlooking the early battle of First Bull Run.

Pretty good definition right there of the word “naive“…

About

I design video games for a living, write fiction, political theory and poetry for personal amusement, and train regularly in Western European 16th century swordwork. On frequent occasion I have been known to hunt for and explore abandoned graveyards, train tunnels and other interesting places wherever I may find them, but there is absolutely no truth to the rumor that I am preparing to set off a zombie apocalypse. Nothing that will stand up in court, at least. I use paranthesis with distressing frequency, have a deep passion for history, anthropology and sociological theory, and really, really, really hate mayonnaise. But I wash my hands after the writing. Promise.
