Contact Lens Jewelry

For those who are bored with ordinary contact lenses, an artist-designer in the Netherlands named Eric Klarenbeek has created what he calls The Eye Jewellery Project, for people who have been dying to dangle diamonds from their eyeballs.

Not that I am particularly bling-inclined personally, but dribbling jewelry off my eyeball is an exercise I think I will skip.

On the bright side, though, anyone doing this is almost guaranteed to stand out in a crowd, and I expect that’s kind of the point.

Projection Watch

It’s been a long time since the mankind has stopped peering into the sky at the sun to calculate the time.

Clocks were invented for this purpose. The first clock was created thousands of years ago. There were various types of clock, including sundial, clepsydra, hourglass and others.

The watch does not have any buttons, except for one touch sensitive button, which will help you manipulate the projection – run a mechanism of temporary (10 sec) or permanent projection.

There are two ways to activate projection: you may touch the button or just shake your hand. Ritot will help you to stay on top of things with vibrating notifications, messages and alerts. Dismiss a notification with a shake of your wrist.

I am half surprised to not see this as Apple’s reputed new smart watch instead of what it appears to actually be building.

It will be interesting to see how far this goes off the ground, but I have to admit I find this one very intriguing indeed…

The Love Letter on the Wall

Copy of LL-I-want-you-like

Composed of a series of 50 rooftop murals from 45th to 63rd Streets along the Market Street corridor, the murals collectively express a love letter from a guy to a girl, from an artist to his hometown, and from local residents to their neighborhood of West Philadelphia.

LL-Forever

Very romantic and all, but this could be worse than a tattoo if that romance ever went sour. At that point you’d pretty much have to move to another city or get used to explaining to your new significant others why the city is covered with declarations of your love to someone else.

Awkward. Just saying.

This takes a rather reverse look at the famous Swiss utilitarianism.

Zoo Jeans: Own Your Own Pair of Wild Animal Shredded Jeans

Screen Shot 2014-07-29 at 1.02.14 AM

Zoo Jeans are designed by dangerous animals.

We first take their favorite playthings — old tires and giant rubber balls — and wrap them in sheets of denim. Then we return them to the animals and let nature run its course. The animals roar, gnaw and claw at their toys, and when they’re done we gather up what’s left of the damaged denim.

It is from this unique fabric that we make the jeans.

Zoo Jeans is an initiative of the “Mineko Club” volunteer group of zoo supporters, launched in collaboration with Kamine Zoo in Hitachi City, with the goal of revivifying the local zoo.

Not surprisingly, the initial auction for these went well into the thousands of dollars. It is slightly tempting to make a joke about the habit of buying pre-distressed jeans for premium prices, which, when you think about it, is exactly what this is.

But jeans shredded by lions, tigers, and bears is just cool, and talk about an opener for just about any conversation ever…

Divorce Cakes

Wedding season might be all smiles and kisses, hearts and flowers, lace and white doves… but, according to the Office of National Statistics, 48 per cent of marriages will end in divorce. Ouch.

So what happens then? You have a divorce party, of course – and everyone knows it’s not a party without cake.

It’s always nice to see the beginning of new cultural institutions.

I have been to a couple of these myself. Only one my own, though. Ahem. And as I recall, I didn’t have a cake. Kind of feel cheated by that, now.
