Take a closer look and you’ll find that the ornate decor found on these porcelain dishes tells a bit of a surprising story. Graphic designer and founder of Calamityware Don Moyer has replaced the typical landscapes and peaceful nature scenes of traditional willow-pattern dinner plates with destructive alien invasions, robot attacks, and flying monkeys.
Moyer believes that “too many plates have been too boring for too long.”
So, he creates these hilarious line drawings where tranquil moments are invaded by impending doom. Erupting volcanos, sinking ships, and burning buildings are surrounded by elaborate graphic patterns, all of which have been hand-drawn by the artist.
