The Magnetic Man

Human magnetism is a popular name for an ability of some people to stick metal objects to their skin. People with such ability are called human magnets. Although metal objects are the most popular, many people are also able to stick other types of materials, such as: glass, wood or plastic.

Human magnetism has been a subject of many scientific researches and it’s not sure what causes this effect. Many scientists claim that this ability is caused by stickiness of the skin.

The image and video are of Etibar Elchyev of Georgia who has broken the world’s record for number of spoons stuck to a person. Apparently, there is a category for that.

About

I design video games for a living, write fiction, political theory and poetry for personal amusement, and train regularly in Western European 16th century swordwork. On frequent occasion I have been known to hunt for and explore abandoned graveyards, train tunnels and other interesting places wherever I may find them, but there is absolutely no truth to the rumor that I am preparing to set off a zombie apocalypse. Nothing that will stand up in court, at least. I use paranthesis with distressing frequency, have a deep passion for history, anthropology and sociological theory, and really, really, really hate mayonnaise. But I wash my hands after the writing. Promise.

  1. Fascinating. I hadn’t heard of human magnetism until now. Thanks for this article.

I’d heard of it, but until this go around I hadn’t realized it actually had nothing to do with real magnetism.

…And here I was so looking forward to a real world superhero. Somehow “Sticky Skin Man” doesn’t have nearly the same ring…
